Matt, You're looking at a very important area and your interviewees make some thought-provoking points, which I would have thought would be of interest to many.

You could consider interviewing a scientist about the chemical influence of plastics on marine life. Whilst plastics present a physical danger, the chemicals that leach out of plastics can have a more insidious and pervasive effect. As I think you're aware, one of these chemicals is nonylphenol which used to be widely used in the plastics industry to protect plastics from oxidation. Susan Jobling (Brunel University) may know about other harmful chemicals and might be a good choice as an interviewee (see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3071549.stm).

The actor David Williams recently swum the Channel and had to negotiate some unpleasant waste - perhaps an interview with him might give your film another dimension and an opportunity to increase its profile.

Good luck

Jon

Great use of emerging technologies (sharing video interviews via the web) of thoughtful specialists, such as scientist Mark Everard. Combined with the invitation to us to review and participate, it’s a wonderful way to encourage people to focus on the question, share knowledge and synthesise insights creatively. Reminds me of Dr Howard Gardner’s recent book, The Five Minds, and Dr Michael Braungart’s Cradle-to-Cradle approach. I found myself further convinced that there is an urgent need to enable specialists to collaborate across many disciplines and professions if we are going to move into effective new ways of thinking and doing.

I loved it! A very clever account of the problem. As he mentions it, it would be silly to believe that plastic is bad and simply should not be used. Plastics a fantastic resource and, for instance, I believe they are in the origin of the contact lenses I wear...Plastics help my life in so many interesting ways. However, the ABUSE of plastic bags for instance, where billions of them are thrown away every day is catastrophic. I loved this video.
